Ivan Toropov's favourite subjects are rural landscapes that have been shaped by people, and «Hay haversting» is a remarkable example of such a genre landscape. Capturing the everyday life of a modest village, the artist lovingly recreates on the canvas various everyday scenes, like a midday break during harvesting season in summer: peasant's resting right on the cutted hay near the trucks in the middle of a field with some haystacks on the background; and this colour pattern, as well as the intimate, behind-the-scenes subject matter generate a poetic image of homeland.

What makes Toropov really unique is his genuine interest in painting trucks. Since 2015 Toropov created a whole series of trucks. Thus the theme came to be one of those, that dominated his work during the last 3 years. The artist often shows the same idea in several treatments, achieving a maximum of efficiency and expression.
